Ling Ling, Japan’s oldest giant panda, a Natioanl favorite and icon at Tokyo’s largest zoo, died Wednesday of heart failure, zookeepers said. Ling Ling’s health problems started in August 2007 due to his old age which was 22 years and seven months, the quivalent to approximately 70 human years. His health issues started when he lost his appetite and strength, ultimately resulting in heart and kidney problems. He was the fifth-oldest male panda in the world, according to experts. After his passing, Ling Ling’s portrait was displayed inside his cage, along with flowerings and his favorite treat of bamboo shoots.
